Facial Fillers

Woman After Facial Fillers

Facial fillers are cosmetic injectables designed for restoring volume, smooth lines, and enhancing facial contours for a youthful, refreshed look. The aging face undergoes changes due to many factors, including loss of muscle, fat, and bone structure as well as changes in skin texture and elasticity.

A Beauty Treatment That Works Deep in the Skin

The Restylane family of products are used to add volume in the face, reducing facial folds and wrinkles and plumping areas of the face that have lost volume due to the natural aging process. They are commonly used in the folds that radiate down from the nose to the corners of the mouth (the nasolabial folds) and the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin (the marionette lines). They are also commonly used to add volume to the lips and cheeks.

The procedure for facial fillers is performed in the office and treatments are done only by a physician. Most patients require no anesthesia other than topical numbing agents. Fillers are delivered by injection or blunt cannula, depending on the area to be treated. Common side effects are bruising, swelling, redness, or pain at the injection sites. Rare side effects include infection, inflammation, or compromised blood flow to the skin. Patients can resume normal activity within 24 hours, but rarely need to take time off from work or normal schedules.
