Robert D. Behar, MD – Retired

Dr. Robert Behar is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in Comprehensive Ophthalmology with a focus in cataract and intra-ocular lens surgery. He has proudly been a partner at Philadelphia Eye Associates since 1982. Dr. Behar is an Attending Surgeon on the Cataract and Primary Eye Care Service at Wills Eye Hospital. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University School of Medicine.

Dr. Behar completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania in 1974 and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1978. Following a medical internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, he served his Ophthalmology Residency at Wills Eye Hospital where he was selected Chief Resident in his senior year.

Dr. Behar is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Philadelphia County Medical Society, and the Greater Philadelphia Ophthalmic Society. In addition, Dr. Behar has served as President of Greater Philadelphia Eye Care Centers of Excellence, an Independent Physician Association (IPA); Chairman of the Board of Eye Physicians Management Corporation, a management services organization (MSO); President of the Ophthalmic Club, an educational organization serving the needs of ophthalmologists in the greater Philadelphia area; and President and Chairman of the Board of the Wills Eye Alumni Society, representing 1,200 Wills Eye Hospital graduates.

Dr. Behar has served and continues to serve on numerous hospital committees, including fifteen years on the Resident Selection Committee at Wills Eye Hospital. He is an active member of the teaching staff at Wills Eye Hospital, participating in the clinical and surgical education of the Residents. Since 1998, he has been a panel member of the Cataract/Retina section in the “Complicated Cataract Cases: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach Symposium,” held annually at Wills Eye Hospital.

Dr. Behar is fluent in Spanish and is available to see patients at the Allegheny Avenue, and Roosevelt Boulevard offices as well as Wills Eye Hospital.
